If you live east of downtown Los Angeles, please come to the Flintridge Bookstore and Coffee House in La Canada Thursday night at 7:30.(July 12th) I'll be reading from A Year of Writing Dangerously and talking about two of my favorite writers who have roots in La Canada. (If you live on the west side of Los Angeles I fully understand the difficulties of going east in the evening. If you live in other parts of the country or the world, I'm talking about gridlock traffic.)
In any event, I hope to see some of you Thursday night. It's a great independant bookstore and I love doing book signings there. Here's their flyer for the event and address:
1010 Foothill Blvd ~ La Canada ~ CA ~ 91011 818.790.0717 ~ www.flintridgebooks.com
Have fun! Wish I could be there. :)

I am at a cleansing in Laguna. Boy do I need it. Wishing you lots of sales and lots of praise for a great book. Luv, Loren

I started reading "Dangerously" this morning while I was brushing my teeth and have been reading off and on all day. I am working on my first novel -- all I can say is thank you for this treasure of a book.

Nice insight on the use of cnttracnioos. There is a vicious discussion going on among my colleagues (all English teachers in Utrecht, The Netherlands, though none is a native speaker) about using cnttracnioos in formal writing. A few argue that they have once learned that it can never ever be used in correspondence, never! Well, I agree with the above: please, think of the audience, the reader, and don't be cramped about it. As long as we stay consistent in our choice, either use them or leave them out. I was pretty consistent in this reply, wasn't I

Oh wow, what an amazing encxrieepe! I'm so happy you spoke to her! Perhaps you two are old souls, who knew each other in a past life I'm not sure whether I believe in things like that, but I like to keep an open mind, and there has to be some kind of explanation for things like that.I think your writing philosophy is beautiful. It's sort of a different way of saying you should write for yourself, do you think? There aren't many things I know for sure, but I do know if you write for yourself, you love what you're doing, and when you love what you're doing, good things happen.Re my own writing philosophy . I don't know. I'm still working it out. I'm still working a lot of things out ;)

I guess I wonder how a fake mmioer progresses through the submission process today versus 1969 or 1970 when the Hughes autobiography was acquired from Clifford Irving. The agent is the presumptive first line of defense but my memory of agent interviews in these cases is that they are shocked, dismayed, perplexed when their clients confess all. My hunch is that literary agencies have fewer resources than publishers to check facts and agencies are not responsible for the decisions made by publishers.

I will stick around and hppaily read whatever you choose to write about. But you know what I kinda miss? Good old fashioned blogging games, like so-called memes and the Monday Mission. They very kindly provided inspiration, or at least a convincing facsimile thereof. We had assignments. But aside from that, I enjoy your writing. While you may feel like you are writing the same post over and over again, I never feel that I am reading the same post over and over again. (However, when I am tired and reading academic stuff, I will often read the same paragraph over and over again. But that is totally not your fault. Actually, if you could re-write the academic papers I have to read, they'd be a lot more entertaining.)I hsould get to bed now, because I'm still like your daughter and child-you. I love sleep, but I have such a hard time bringing myself to go to bed. (I just never want to get out of bed in the morning.)alejnab4s last [type] ..

I look forward to each of your posts. They are much less same old same old than any news wbstiee I can procrastinate with. And your writing style is what makes your stuff fun to read. The words you choose, the way you write dialog. I'm a total hack compared to you on that. Which is why I include way more swear words in my posts.
