Never give up! My goal was to be published for the first time this year and I sent out an essay over and over again. Rejections galore. Today I opened an envelope I was going to throw away and it was an acceptance of my essay from SLAB literary magazine, I don't even remember which magazine this is, but now it's my all time favorite!

Thank you for this inspiration, Barbara. Right after reading your post this morning, I got another salutary perspective on rejection listening to NPR interviewing newly jobless people talking about how it feels to get letter after letter of rejection after submitting their applications. It really brought home to me that a rejection letter I received from a magazine this week undermined only my ego and confidence and not my ability to meet my mortgage payment or feed my family. How blessed I am to be able to sit and write, period.

Kim - Congratulations and BRAVO!

Mary - Thank you for this thoughtful comment. You've really put writer's rejection slips in perspective.
