I love writers, and I really loved the ones who were on my panel this weekend at UCLA Extension’s ArtsDay LA.The reason is that they’re so honest. As Maria Escandon said on the panel, writers are like subway flashers lurking around in their trench coats, and then suddenly throwing open their coats - exposing all to everybody, whole crowds of people!
Check out her novels: Esperanza’s Box of Saints (translated into 21 languages!) and Gonzalez & Daughter Trucking Co. Also Noel Alumit’s novels: Letters to Montgomery Clift and Talking to the Moon (and his website www.thelastnoel.com . Read his take-no-prisoners view on the latest memoir scandel.) And read poet Rachel Kann’s book of short stories, 10 for Everything and listen to her at www.rachelkann.com.
Thanks to all the people who showed up at ten on a Saturday morning to listen to us.
Thank you for taking the time to speak to all of us. I truly appreciated your advice, insight, and honesty on the craft and the business. You're an inspiration to those of us who are dreaming of a writer's life.
