Just before the holidays I sold a proposal for another book entitled Kicking In The Wall: A Year of Writing Exercises for Fiction, Memoir & Essays. I'm at work on it now and New World Library will published it in Spring 2013. The title comes from a quote by Patti Smith:
“I would go as far as I could and hit a wall, my own imagined limitations. And then I met a fellow who gave me his secret, and it was pretty simple. When you hit a wall, just kick it in.”
– Patti Smith
The friend who gave her the advice was Sam Shepard.
(The photo above of the wall I took on a boat cruise going through the locks on the Danube.)

What great advice-I needed to hear
that today. You are so creative
and certainly on a roll. You are such an inspiration!

oh and Jazzlamb, if you are getting these repelis, I forgot to respond to your comment about Craig Thompson, I have read Goodbye- Chunky Rice and liked it a lot, but I liked Blankets much more. I think I am partial to the autobiographical graphic novels.

I live in Wichita lol so I'm pretty close even if we can't meet up that night (I have another friend who wants to meet lol) it'd be great to get together sometime since we live relatively close.Yeah, I'm so nervous. It's great to see that other people have the same sort of troubles too. So happy you found a crit group!

Joanna, this is a perfect month for this theme. With the cnhage of seasons, it feels natural to take some time and savor the newness, to slow down the pace and do some self-reflection and internal spring cleaning. I really wish I was going to be in Sardinia but I have a goal for next year. I am looking forward to the coming month and the variety of voices. I am sure that I will find a fresh perspective as I come here to exhale.Karen Swims last blog post..
