Fantastic! I remember you asking me for an essay and how sorry I was not to have one -- oops, I guess I can't really be sorry that I haven't lost a beloved pet, yet...

Denise Emanuel Clemen

Congrats, Barbara! I hope you do another anthology that I have a piece for!! My dogs are smiling. Hmm--maybe gloating.

Maria

THIS is a great story Barbara, Congratulations!
I work for a pet insurance company and get to spend my days listening to the stories of pet parents who are dealing with illness, injury and death (and expensive medical bills). I am constantly awed by the depth of the dedication and love they have for their pets. I cannot wait for your book to be published so I can share it with them.

Congratulations Barbara. What a wonderful concept for a book. I look forward to receiving it and adding it to my Abercrombie collection. Best, Loren

A perfect example of "write what you know." Congratulations!

Thank you everybody for your comments. And no one nailed me for saying that Dr. Bob was a DMV instead of a DVM.

Martha Silano posted this on my Facebook page - "A very cpemolling question about do we get paid, Penny. I tried to post a comment on your blog, but the letters I was supposed to type didn't appear. Here's what I would have posted:Of course I write "for free." I'm a freaking poet! Every once in a while I get $20 for a poem, and I've received a few grants and residencies, but I don't think of writing as a paying job, so all that's gravy. Poetry feeds my soul. I would write it even if it cost me money (and it does, in a way, cost me a lot of money, in the form of time). Do we get paid to pray?"
